Defcon

I just got back to playing this unique look on war. It's called Defcon, a game where "Everybody Dies".

The game starts almost like a base building strategy game, where you install radar installations, airbases, silos, and your navy.

The game is, however, on a timer of sorts. In Defcon 5, you simply build your things and wait, Defcon 4 allows your navy to move around, Defcon 3 allows for naval and air combat, Defcon 2 allows all non-nuclear combat, and Defcon 1 allows nuclear arms to come into play.

In Defcon 3, the skill is in defending your coasts and navy, as well as getting your subs to the opposing coast. Because come Defcon 1, they can launch nukes at short range. Defcon 1 is when the game gets intense, because everyone is waiting for the first nuke. I notice that whoever fires off later or last usually survives, because Silos are Anti air guns when not in use, thus you have a defense while the person who fired first has none.

After the nukes are fired, a victory timer begins. After that timer, the player with the most survivors wins. [At least in default games, there are variants where the person who killed the most win.]

Once you get the hang of Defcon, its an addicting experience.
